JEFFERSON DEVELOPMENT COMMISSSION September 29, 2004 David Lorbecki Re: Documentation of your position regarding the proposed Wal-Mart Dear Dave: Thank you for taking the time and interest to present your views last night on the Wal-Mart Supercenter that is proposed for the city of Jefferson. The Jefferson Development Commission is interested in obtaining sufficient information, so that we can make an informed and intelligent decision regarding Wal-Marts proposal. In order for us to objectively consider the information you presented last night we would like to get a copy of the sources of information that you used to come to your conclusions about the Wal-Mart proposal. We sincerely need to be able to sort out facts from opinions. In particular we ask that you provide us with the documentation that you used to come to a conclusion on the following statements. We ask that you supply us with the publication, the author, the date, and the source of where you obtained the information. Please provide documentation that: 1. police costs will increase. In particular, how you came to the conclusion that we will need to add two police squad cars. 2. Wal-Mart will bring more shoplifters to town; and how shoplifting leads to violence. 3. Wal-Mart will limit the freedom of our citizens. 4. the city council will lose its power to Wal-Mart 5. two grocery stores close every time a supercenter opens 6. net job loss will occur in our community In reviewing your information and your opinions, as an organization, it will be important for us to know about your membership. Please provide us with a list of members who have provided money to the Coalition for a Better Jefferson, and those who are members, but have not contributed money. It would also be helpful to know who your officers are, so that we can communicate with the appropriate people. In order for me to prepare for our next Jefferson Development meeting I ask that you get the above information to me no later than Friday, October 1st , 2004.
