Commerce and Industry Association
Tuesday, January 20, 1998
Location: Carnegie Building

5:05 p.m. - 5:45 p.m.
Attending: Beyer, Brawders, Martin, Schornack and van Lieshout. Staff: Olsen.
1. Call to Order Called to order at 5:05 p.m. by Vice-President Martin.
2. Election of 1998 Officers
Historically the presidency and vice-presidency alternates between the JDC and Chamber of Commerce. Motion (Brawders/Beyer) to elect Bob Martin as CIA President and Jim van Lieshout as CIA Vice President. MOTION CARRIED
3. Approval of Minutes and Financials
Motion (Brawders/Beyer) to approve minutes of November 18, 1997 meeting and financials. MOTION CARRIED
4. Chamber Update
Board was invited to Annual Dinner. Report was given on the first board annual retreat/planning workshop. The 1998 Program of Work was distributed. Discussed promotions/signage for the Racine Street Bridge and Highway 26 construction projects.
5. Jefferson Development Corporation Update
Reported on common council approval of North Industrial Park land price formula and revised covenants. Discussed Generacs need for additional parking.
6. Common Council Update
Reported on the upcoming election. Gave an update on the status of the Puerner Building. Discussed possibility of establishing a TIF District downtown.
7. Performance Evaluation of Executive Director
Distributed a copy of Olsens review.
8. Sale of Schweiger Office Building
It was reported that the old Schweiger Office Building has been sold. Current plans call for the building to be leased out to a few businesses for storage.
9. Highway 26 Reconstruction
Discussed the impact of the Highway 26 reconstruction on local businesses. Talked about the need for businesses to work together on signage and promotions.
10. Payroll Signatures
Olsen explained the difficulty in getting a second signature on his payroll check. The board felt it was important to keep this policy in effect. The people authorized to co-sign checks are the Executive Director and Mayor or the President of the Commerce and Industry Association Board of Directors.
11. Adjourn Meeting adjourned at 5:45 p.m.
