Discussion of joint Village/School summer youth programs

Village and School Board members discussed the current programs available for youth in Johnson Creek including: the four-week Summer School program, the Library program (one afternoon per week), and the number of baseball and softball programs in the area. After considerable discussion, it was agreed that both Village and School representatives have interest in pursuing the possibility of offering additional activities for youth in the Village.

There was discussion of attempting to obtain a seasonal employee to serve as a Parks/Recreation Director. The Village and School would fund this position jointly. Loans to begin the program as well as use of user fees were discussed as a mechanism to fund the expense of seasonal personnel and summer programming.

Administrator Gamble and Superintendent Peterson agreed to conduct further research by contacting other municipalities and schools with recreation programs. In addition, local universities were to be contacted in an effort to obtain interest from college students to fill the seasonal Parks/Recreation position. Gamble and Peterson agreed to compile their findings and set up a future meeting date.
