Town of Watertown
Comprehensive Plan Public Advisory Committee

Earlier this year, the Town of Watertown received a 50% matching grant from the Wisconsin Department of Administration (DOA) to write and implement a comprehensive land use plan that is in compliance with the State of Wisconsin's new Smart Growth legislation. Watertown Township's Smart Growth planning process will be conducted over an 18 month time-frame and is scheduled to be completed in June of 2002.

The Town Board hired the firm of Foth and Van Dyke to facilitate the planning process and to provide the necessary expertise to expedite a successful planning process. Our consultants for the planning process are Matt Peters and Ken Jaworski. They may be contacted at: Foth and Van Dyke, 2737 S. Ridge Road, PO Box 19012, Green Bay, WI 54307-9012, (920) 497-2500 or email <mpeters@foth.com>

The Watertown Town Board has selected a nine person Public Advisory Committee (PAC) to represent the public's interests in the planning process. The PAC was chosen based on written response to an extensive survey and willingness to commit the necessary time to the project. The PAC consists of the following persons; Tom Sloan (chair), Greg David, Brian Dopke, Mary Horack, Juli Logemann, Charles Nienow, William Reichertz, Pat Steuhler and Paul Strobush.

The comprehensive land use plan must meet all the criteria set forth in Wisconsin's new Smart Growth Legislation. The nine required Smart Growth Elements are:
  1. Issues and Opportunities Element (Demographic Summery/ Goals and Objectives)
  2. Housing Element
  3. Transportation Element
  4. Utilities and Community Facilities Element
  5. Agricultural, Natural and Cultural Resources Element
  6. Economic Development Element
  7. Intergovernmental Cooperation Element
  8. Land Use Element
  9. Implementation Element

As part of the criteria for receiving the DOA grant, the township must provide for extensive public involvement. This web site is part of that outreach program. It is meant to provide the reader with current information about the Town of Watertown Smart Growth Planning Process. Further information about the planning process may be obtained by attending a PAC meeting held from 6:30 to 8:30pm, on the first Wednesday night of each month, at the Watertown Town Hall. Or call a town board member, a PAC member or the planning consultant.

Your knowledge of this planning process is important. Your participation is appreciated. The Town is currently in the second phase of developing the comprehensive plan and that the first phase, meetings 1-6 involved public participation and issues identification.
