RESOLUTION DIRECTING REFERENDUM ON WAL-MART

This is in response to the request by Alderman Olsen at the last council meeting requesting an advisory referendum. We do not know if there will be a primary in February.

CITY OF JEFFERSON
RESOLUTION NO. 86

Directing that the following advisory referendum question be placed on the April 2005 general ballot.

ARE YOU IN FAVOR OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON ALLOWING WALL-MART TO BUILD A SUPERCENTER?

WHEREAS, the City of Jefferson has been approached by Wal-Mart to build a super center on an area land that is currently located within the Town of Jefferson.

WHEREAS, has yet to petition the city for annexation or any conditional uses for the supercenter.

WHEREAS, the Common Council of the City of Jefferson is asking for the citizens of Jefferson to voice their opinion by ballot to guide the council with its decision.

WHEREAS, the City can hold an advisory referendum on any issue and present the same in any form, but elects to follow the State Election Board procedure as outlined in Sec 8.55 Wis Stats to prevent voter confusion. This referendum questions shall be subject to the State Election Board’s approval.

NOW,THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the following referendum question be placed on the April 2005 election ballot: ARE YOU IN FAVOR OF THE OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON ALLOWING WAL-MART TO BUILD A SUPERCENTER?
